Spill Expo
Nov 8, 2025

In 1991 I joined a Norwegian Amiga Demo scene group called Crusaders. An active, respected and well known group who started a yearly event called The Gathering which still runs today. After seeing my talk for the Amiga’s 40th birthday they asked if I’d like to give this talk at an event called Spill Expo (game con).

What an utterly brilliant 4 days. A trip down memory lane catching up with many I’d not seen for 25+ years. Spill Expo itself was huge, 20,000 visitors, stalls selling games, memorabilia, hardware, the military showing cyber games, a hall dedicated to cosplay, e-gaming events - the national Norwegian Tetris final, Rocket League, Fortnite etc. Crusaders were there running a retro stall with home computers and consoles, playing SWIV with Bjorn Lynne and others most gratifying.

A contingent of Crusaders joined me for a mini reunion meal, heartwarming being back together again.

And something I’d not realised till now is how much their ethos rubbed off on me, a real Can Do attitude, not that surprising given a cabal of folks in their 20s putting on a yearly event for 5000 and not batting an eyelid. Oh and insisting everyone takes their shoes off when entering my house…!
